Welcome Jessica

With today's page, Jessica Cantlope steps up as the artist of Mysteries of the Arcana. Jessica is the creator of Lovefeast and Millennium, two excellent webcomics. Her art and color work has always impressed me so I was pleased when she said she'd sign on with us. Jessica will be the artist of MotA at least through the end of this story.

Say hello, everyone!

As an artist in her own right she does very good work, with that being said though, I must disagree with it working with MotA; it looks rather jarring to me.

I admit, moving from one style to another can take some getting used to. If I had a choice, I wouldn't do it in the middle of a storyline.

I, for one, welcome the new artist and intend to give her a chance. Maybe the added cartoonish-ness will soften up the tone a little -- sometimes it's just too mature.

Welcome, Jessica! I will admit that the art style is different. But I think it still captures the essence of the characters and conveys their expressions and feelings. So I fully intend to give Jessica my support and praise. (I certainly couldn't draw so well.) I'm also looking forward to witnessing the resolution of these current storylines. Hooray for character development!

Welcome Jessica!Well, as said, it will take some time to getting used to, but maybe after this storyline is done we can give a more definite answer.

Welcome Jessica!

I am a longtime fan and friend, and I think she's fabulous. I know she'll please you as a talented artist and creator. Give her a chance and you will be delighted. Smile

Welcome, Jessica.  It's going to take a bit of getting used to this 2-d layering type art, but at least the characters are still recognizable, and their affects haven't changed all that much.

Thank you so much, everybody. <3

I was initially worried at how my style(s) would work out with MotA. I want to try something slightly different from both of my comics, but it hasn't quite manifest yet. I'm sure it will over time.

James approached me with confidence, and I'm ever grateful for it.

Welcome, Senshuu. I didn't recognize you with the new style. Going for a western look this time around?

Nothing to see here. Move along.

...Sweet Andraste's knickers, that was longer than I intended it to be.  Sorry!

Ahhhh...the inconveniences of growing pains. :/

Fairportfan (Guest) (2011-06-15)

Well, i'll give it a week or so.

Unfortunately, it was the art at least as much as the story that first pulled me in.

Not sure i can stick it out if this is the new style.

Fairportfan (Guest) (2011-06-15)

Not slamming the new artist as an artist, it's just that the style just doesn't fit my vision of the story or characters, and i don't see how you could revise those enough to fit.

Flinn (Guest) (2011-06-16)

Forgot to say this before I posted that...but that's just an idea I had that you could maybe do...
Anyway, I'll still be popping in on Mondays and Thursdays for the updates, whatever ends up happening. Wink

I agree, a better example of that would be http://www.aliendice.com/blog/2001/05/16/05162001/

Gah! Vitamin X is mutating our characters! Scooby and Thelma have invaded the comic! The forcefields did nothing! ;p  Yeah, this is going to take quite a bit of getting used to.

This is my first and likely only comment... I don't even remember how I stumbled across this comic, but it took only one glance for it to become a comic I read on a regular basis. I enjoy artwork, yes... but far more, I enjoy story and concept. I do not mean to demean the work done by any artists in saying that... all I am saying is that I loved the comic from the first time I started reading it, because the story and universe have a unique feel, something that I am always interested in. I'll be sticking around as a reader so long as you keep updating; best wishes to you and those who work with you now and in the future Smile

It sounds to me like Jessica was just being a baby about it. If Sarrah, who sounds like a professional, could honestly post the comment that she did above, then I say you were doing alright as a boss. On a side note, a true professional would never have burnt the bridges that Jessica did as she quit. You might honestly be better off with someone else. That said, please be careful. The artwork seems to be evolving into Order of The Stick. Just saying...
